Mowlana

Persian poet, philosopher and sufi mystic
His followers founded the Mowlavi Sufi Order. They are known as the Whirling Dervishes (referring to their dance ritual).
Full name: Mowlana Jalal Edin Mohammad Balkhi (he is referred to as Mowlana or Rumi)
Life période: 1207 - 1273
Living place: City of Konya in the Rum area located in present-day Turkey
Dominant themes in his works: Sufi precepts and practices (especially in Masnavi Maanavi and in prose works, see below) leading to purification of one’s inner self, awareness of an ultimate reality, spiritual truth, and Divinity. The Ghazaliat, inspired by and dedicated to his friend and spiritual mentor, Shams Tabrizi, focuses on ethics, values, friendship, and love.
